Many poor, marginalized communities lack affordable housing, childcare, health care, and jobs that pay a living wage. Investing in disadvantaged communities alleviates economic disparity by providing capital, credit, and training to those with lower incomes. Community investing, however, is also a sound investment practice. Unlike community development investments, these investments earn competitive returns, providing a social return that attracts investors and benefits communities.

Below are five featured priority programs supported by PRF. Each project aims to change the living standards of Kenya’s marginalized and poor communities. Please join us in making the world a better place. The programs/projects are self-sustaining, and with donor funding assistance, they thrive.

Africa Gold Dust Community Investment Program(AGDCI):

An estimated 15,000 children work in gold mines in western Kenya’s Nyanza province’s Nyatike and Migori districts. Children are employed in the extraction process by providing ancillary services such as groceries. According to local Children’s Welfare Office data, this figure rises significantly on weekends and during school holidays. Many people who rent a section of the mine daily will pay a child 100 shillings (US$1.20) per hour for their labour. On the global market, a gram of gold costs around $55.

Those who hire them are wealthy, but the children struggle to earn money to buy good clothes and food for their guardians. Some students miss school entirely. “When you look at the levels of school dropouts… the closer a school is to a gold mine, the higher the rates of decrease in school attendance,” said the Nyanza Province Director of Education.

The AGDI will help orphaned, and vulnerable children in these underserved areas reach their full potential. Children’s rights in education and other basic needs are key focus areas. In addition, the program will empower parents and guardians by encouraging their children to work in mines. Crucially, the program raises awareness of the health hazard associated with using mercury to amalgamate small particles of gold. This process is highly toxic and hurts childhood development outcomes. Prophet Reward Foundation invites future investors to support community development through this program.

PRF Charity Venturesome (PRF-CV)

PRF Charity Venturesome is a social investment aimed at offering low-cost financial assistance to charities, social enterprises, and community organizations such as:

FBOs / CBOs
Self-help organizations
Women’s and youth organizations

Grants are frequently unavailable, and traditional financial institutions are difficult to access to fund them.

What is social investment?

Social investment is the use of repayable finance to achieve a social as well as a financial return. Capital is lent to organizations with the explicit aim of furthering their social outcomes. These outcomes range from helping young unemployed people secure work to alleviating poverty in developing countries.

PRF Venturesome provides affordable financial support to charities and social enterprises in the form of unsecured repayable loans when commercial lenders may be unwilling to help.

We offer:

Unsecured loans – for up to five years
Standby facility – similar to an overdraft, a pot of money that is put aside for your organization that can be accessed if and when it is required
Other less common social investment products, including Social Impact Bonds and revenue participation agreements.

Prophet Charity House Feeding Program (PCH-FP)

This program will end hunger in the Horn of Africa through food packaging for emergency relief. It is a self-sustaining program where local and international volunteers will mobilize the resources in organized food packaging events. There are a number of stakeholders we are looking to engage to facilitate this including.

PRF will be facilitating and organizing the events. Food packages will be distributed to our beneficiaries including orphans, street children, vulnerable children and elderly families. Other community organizations will be supported including:

This program is an initiative campaign to rid Kenya and other horn of Africa countries out of hunger.

Community Investment Education Kit

This program will provide an opportunity for millions of orphaned and vulnerable children to learn. Many students miss out on educational opportunities as a result of poor grades or a lack of school fees. Our goal is to educate any child enrolled in our program from a public/community/informal school in Kenya with a pass mark of 250+1 out of 500 on their final class eight (8) exam. Most scholarship programs in Kenya require a minimum of 320 points, which is an unattainable standard for the majority of students. Inadequate education leads to criminal activity and local illicit brew, including the sex trade. PRF will assist needy children with a passing grade point average in reaching their full potential through education.

Clean Water – Healthy Community (CWHC)

This is a commercial project that aims to train women from door to door in urban and rural villages that have been set up to provide clean water. Every homestead will be equipped with a health water making machine to help control diseases such as cancer, obesity, high blood pressure, and diabetes.
